Speaking Easy by Penguin!

It's been a while since I last heard of Penguin, the clothing line. I remember when they were very popular. It is good to know that they are still around and making a very fashionable comeback. I better tell my brothers about this and hope to see them wearing what they used to love to wear when they were younger. I have a feeling my Dad would like it too.

This season Original Penguin takes customers back to a simpler time with a ‘Speak Easy’ revival. The Autumn/Winter offering brings back everything that is underground, relaxed, personal and ‘members only’ about the Iconic ‘Speak Easy’ movement, elements that run throughout the entire Original Penguin brand.

Inspired by the art of conversation, the message behind the collection is to go back to the birth of Original Penguin when there were no phones, Blackberries or instant messaging least of all Tweets, when face-to-face conversation was the norm. This ethos of paired back simplicity and straight forward communication been translated into the collection for AW11. Illustrated by strong shapes and rich hues, accented by the staple high quality construction of Original Penguin.

Knitwear presents a strong selection of vintage and modern styles in a mix of boiled and Merino wool. The knitwear also features double-breasted cardigans for a slightly formal silhouette alongside some of the more casual pieces with over sized wooden peg buttons. In keeping with the ‘locked in away from the cold’ feeling of the ‘speak easy’, there is a mix of ski inspired fairisle knits as well as the more basic versatile crew neck jumpers.

The outerwear mimics the relaxed armour of the knitwear range, delivering a combination of styles including the more fashion led varsity jacket, which has been produced in wool. Other pieces in the outwear range also include a pea -coat and a range of puffer jackets. Original Penguin has also developed a range of single-breasted jackets for the season, in a blend of khaki tones, which feature utilitarian elbow patches, symbolising the work wear element to the collection.

In terms of the leg wear offering, Original Penguin have stayed true to their roots and continued to produce a strong collection of durable chinos and cords in a number of colours that fit into A/W 11 trends, such as deep reds and navy’s. The Chinos also come in a number of fits ranging from the slimmer styles to the more modern carrot fit.

Original Penguin’s A/W 11 collection brings together everything that is quality and heritage from this iconic brand, pulling on classic menswear looks from the rich Original Penguin archive. This has then been produced in a range of current fits that are relevant for today’s man.

For Autumn Winter 2011 Original Penguin also launches a four-piece denim collection, the denim range offers four distinct styles, designed for a variety of looks. These include; the Heritage, which consists of a slim fit style also available in non-denim. The Rogue, which is a skinny fit, the Rockabilly offers a more classic style in a straight fit with a longer rise. Finally there is the Pioneer; a vintage carrot fit style, which is also available in a chino.
