Nobu Brunch Buffet!

As a birthday gift from Ms. Charisse Chuidian and her team, not only was I able to try the Nobu brunch buffet, I was able to spend quality time with Daddy-O. We were both quite excited one Sunday morning, maybe a bit too excited that we were there even before the restaurant opened. 

I must tell you that my Dad is quite the food critique. He is very hard to please when it comes to dining out because he himself is a great cook. I think all Kapangpangans are. 

But take a look at this spread. How can anyone complain? The seafood were fresh, beautifully plated and most importantly, delicious. 

The buffet inclues free local beers and mocktails. Please try the Virgin Mojito. That's all you need to drink. I had about 3 glasses.

Nobu Adobo. I die. 

Aside from the food on the buffet table, servers would come out with small plates carrying the most delicious bites straight from the kitchen. This is their version of tempura and I could have had 10 servings. It's that good. 

Alaskan sea bass. 

My dad's ultimate favorite is the Sea bass Jalapeno. 

For dessert.....

I hardly give a 5 star rating but everything about this day was ultimately perfect.

Meeting Chef Nobu Matsuhisa.

So here I was, late for the press lunch and conference with THE Chef Nobu Matsuhisa in City of Dreams. I was able to catch the last 5 minutes of the Q and A but was lucky enough to have a photo taken with him. 

Chef Nobu is NOT only a highly acclaimed and influential chef proprietor of Nobu and Matsuhisa restaurants all over the globe, he is also a very gentle and kind man that loves nothing but to share a sake with friends and to laugh. 

Nobu was born in Saitama, Japan, the son of a lumber merchant who died in a traffic accident when the future chef was just seven years old. He traces the beginnings of his profession ambition to the day his older brother took him to a sushi restaurant for the first time. Young Nobu found himself fascinated by everything about the environment. It was at this time he knew he was destined for a career in the kitchen. 

Fast forward to 1978 when he went to Los Angeles on the advice of a friend. He took a job at a sushi bar, working and using his income to make good on his commitments. No less than nine years later, after earning his way back to solvency, Nobu opened his own restaurant Matsuhisa in Beverly Hills in 1987.

Nobu Manila Unfolds.

The food was simple and delicious. 

I swear I could have had three servings of the Signature Sashimi Trio (tuna tataki cilantro, yellowtail jalapeno, white fish dry miso). Make sure you order these when dining in Nobu.

The most popular Black Cod with Nasu Miso and paper thin vegetables. (Wish I had a better photo)

Wagyu Short Ribs and Crispy Mushroom Salad. 

Miso Banana Bar for dessert. 

The event would not have been as successful as it was without these two. 

Director of the show, Robby Carmona and the host, Iza Calzado. So proud of you guys. 

Jarlath Lynch was my GM when I was assigned in our shop in EDSA Shangri-la Hotel. I am so glad to have reconnected with him.

As for Robert de Niro? Well, Every single person was trying to get a photo with him and I kinda felt bad that he had no space to breath so this is the closest I got to him. I am sure he is used to it and I envy those who have photos with him...

...but I think that this event is more about Chef Nobu more than Uncle Bobby.  I am happy he had a moment to have a photo with me.
